Official Photos
These images have all been reproduced without permission from sources such as magazines and album sleeve art. The photographer, where known, has been credited.
- Valerie sent in the cover of East Coast Rocker - this picture seems to be a colour print of the cover of the Life Before Starfish promo album that Arista released.
- Doug Berry sent in the cover of Temperature Drop In Downtown Winterland.
- Paul Webb sent in a picture that accompanied The Church's entry in a book called The New Rock 'n' Roll.
- Ed Aldrett sent me a scan of a flyer from a show Steve Kilbey did in L.A. Its been signed by Steve, right on the chin !
- Border Music, who released Seeing Stars have two pictures of Marty. [1] [2]
- The single for She's King had a picture of Marty busking.
- A Church postcard - This is the description of the picture sent to me by Fernando Hidalgo from Spain. I think it's advertising a concert on the Blurred Crusade tour. Thanks Fernando ! Hans Becker told me this was a postcard and not a poster; he's got a copy himself.
- Australian Style magazine had a pictures of Steve and Grant. The photographer was Tony Notarberardino.
Steve's picture had a caption which read "Being a kid is like being on LSD all the time: you got to a quarry, ride your bike with friends, no one else is around. you spend your time poking around in puddles. It's much more exciting than flying to New York in a rock 'n' roll band. That doesn't hold a candle to those early experiences."
Grant's picture read "A song like Running From the Body has something profound to say. When I started writing it, I'd just finished E. Annie Proulx's Postcards. But I can remember very clearly when I was doing the backing track, I started thinking about my grandmother lying in a room dead....We run from our physical frame all the time. It's about imagination. About trying not to be so earthbound."
- The big stained glass thingy (200K) from Hindsight would make a good candidate for some "home customization" ! Can you get your face into it ?!
- The back of the Too Fast For You double single (159 K) had a quartet of photos. It looks like they were taken while filming the videos for the first album (same place, different special effects :) )
- A picture from Steve's Slow Crack album and another close up picture (125K). Boy, it's getting tough to think of descriptions for these things !
- Cathy Weise drove 700 miles to a record fair, and this was her Prize Find ! The Dutch issue of Antenna/Frozen and Distant has another Greyshock photo gracing its cover.
- THE HEYDAY SHIRTS ! - Shadow Cabinet is pleased and proud to present this image to you. Richard sold the shirts that he and Peter wore on the cover of the Heyday albums. They were purchased by two members of the Seance mailing list, Cathy Weise and Thomas Irvin. Cathy has sent me this nicely set image of these Genuine Church Artifacts :) And I've decided to refrain from making any comments about "taking the shirt off their backs". Good idea, eh ?
- Life Before Starfish was a promotional compilation released just after Starfish. It wasn't made available to the public.
- An article in Contrast magazine was accompanied by these rather odd photos of Steve, Peter and Marty
- Jack Frost - This picture was on the back of a single from this album
- It's No Reason single cover is a collage of photos of the band. Pay close attention to the "pouter" in the bottom right. Who told him to pose like that !?
- The back of the above single has a photo taken by one "Lucy Willson-Piper". She wrote to me recently and said she convinced Marty to come to Australia to join a band....hence....The Church ! She also did all the other artwork on this single, including the front cover.
- Marty's Questions Without Answers 7" single had this photo of him on the cover
- The cover of the English Unguarded Moment single bears a resemblance to the cover of "Temperature Drop In Downtown Winterland" which is the rarest Church item
- The cover of the German Unguarded Moment single (83K).
- Cathy Weise has found four press kit photos. They're from Priest=Aura,Remote Luxury, Heyday and Marty's Art Attack. The Heyday one look very similar to the sleeve of the Columbus single and I really like the one of Marty singing to the New york skyline.

- Destination Promo (159K) Beautiful Greyshock photo with map superimposed. This looks cool when embossed.
- Onstage (166K) Photo by Bob King. Note the cameramen ! What were they filming ? AHA ! I've seen the video for Columbus and think that must be what was being shot at this time. Now if we could just get
the film....
