Notes

Includes this write-up on The Church:

Sydney, Australia, April 1980. The Church form. Steve Kilbey and Peter Koppes had been in some Canberra bands that never recorded - Precious Little, Baby Grande. Expat Englishman Marty Willson-Piper had been in The True Hundred in England. Richard Ploog was a veteran of a string of bands - Exhibit A, Loose Kicks. The Church were serious.

Talking with Jon Storey in 1986, Steve Kilbey said, The Church have always had an incredibly eclectic range of influences...The Beatles, The Byrds, Dylan, Be-Bop Deluxe, Cockney Rebel, Doctors of Madness, pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd, Big Star, the Stones, the Who. Basically anyone who'd done anything good in the last 20 years."*

"The Unguarded Moment" was their second single, issued in March 1981 by Australian Parlophone Records. Incredibly assured, it became both a benchmark and a millstone for the Church - "an albatross around our necks" is how Kilbey put it to Jon Storey*. But it was an incredibly effective international calling card, starting a career that would take the Church around the world more than a few times.
