Notes
Here's a review from Paul Regelbrugge, The Big Take-Over #40 (USA):
There is a Betty Blue-like, crushed aspiration melancholia about this debut effort featuring ex-Crystal Set spearhead, Russell Kilbey (brother of The Church's Steve Kilbey). Largely an instrumental record - only one cut features singing - this in no musical way resembles the supremely melodic, fantastic Crystal Set. While it does share the subtle darkness and sense of loss of the aforementioned's music, this is above all an incredibly inventive and eminently tuneful, spaghetti-western inspired effort. The tempos range widely from slow and brooding ("The Widower" and "Pink Gin"), to the medium, winding, and awesome ("The Mercury Cure" and "Bill's Last Hand"), to the raucous, brilliant "Idiot Half Brother." Who plays precisely what and when is a mystery, but this is a remarkably well-performed record which hopefully won't be their last. An instrumental album the mood of which hastens countless listens.
