Somewhere Else (bonus disc)
by The Church
REVIEWS and COMMENTS
It has what used to be my all time favorite song (after hearing Forget Yourself I'm not so sure anymore!), what can be bad about this for me?
Macabre Tavern... but this is the album that rescued Drought from obscurity, and it still has some great Church songs. That is The Church at their most experimental and dynamic duo stage. If you like Sometime Anywhere do your best to get this EP, if you got it together with the album you're lucky. In my case I had to send for it, getting only the coupon inside my disc (there's a story there, but you could read that at the After Everything forum of HW if you really cared so I won't repeat it here).
I think that Myths You Made is one of the finest Marty Willson-Piper songs, The Time Being and Leave Your Clothes On are also essential tracks for me. Drought and Cut In Two are also well worth it. Freeze To Burn has some of the electronica feel of Angelica in a darker package. It doesn't get any darker and weirder than Macabre Tavern though... a track that for me fails completely, but I think is that spirit of experimentation without fear of failure that makes this and Sometime Anywhere so full of precious moments.
I still wonder, ever since I read that at the Interview archives of the Shadow Cabinet: what if SA had Cut In Two and The Time Being instead of Business Woman and Authority as originally intended. I have them programmed like that in an MP3 playlist and it actually flows quite nicely.
P.S. Great addition to the Discography Fipster.
