The Original Shadow Cabinet
Church and Solo Albums
This page is a kind of index to the material held elsewhere in
Shadow Cabinet. By giving each album it's own page, not only can
I tell you more about each album but it can springboard into the
appropriate sections of the other pages, such as lyrics,
pictures, or whatever.
Church Albums
My thanks to Mike Fulmer, maintainer of the Church discography. The links for more recent albums go to his site's albums pages which are, frankly, much better than these at the moment :)
The Refo:mation - Pharmakoi/DCHWEU
- Steve, Peter and Tim have recorded a brilliant album. Get this
one !
Steve Kilbey
- Dabble
- Remindlessness is Steve's
most complex and rich solo album.
- Unearthed was partly
intended as a kind of "soundtrack to a film that
hasn't been made." Othertime was the first
song of Steve's I learned to play and has remained a
favourite ever since.
- The Slow Crack was released
around the same time as Starfish. Hear Steve play blues
piano !
- Narcosis Plus is a
re-release of the Narcosis EP with four more tracks
included.
- Gilt Trip - An
instrumental album recorded by Steve and his brother
Russell.
- Jack Frost - The first,
self-titled Jack Frost album. This is a band consisting
of Steve Kilbey and Grant McLennan, formerly of
Australian band The Go-Betweens.
- SnowJob is the latest
Jack Frost album.
- Vast Halos was the second
album Steve and Donette Thayer made together under the
name Hex.
- Sleeping With The Lion
was Margot Smith's first album. Steve produced and
co-wrote some of the tracks.
- Fake is an album on which
Steve worked as producer. This was kept secret for a long
time due to contractual spaghetti.
- Loudspeaker is an album
of poetry read/sung to backing tracks, to which Steve
contributed one track. A second Loudspeaker album was created but Steve's only appearance was to play bass on one song.
Marty Willson-Piper
- Hanging Out In Heaven is
in the pipeline and should be released in January 1999
- Seeing Stars is the
latest release involving Marty.
- Spirit Level was
Marty's last solo album and was released in 1992.
- In Reflection was
Marty's first album and is only available on vinyl. Let
the searching begin...
- Dive is an album from
"Dare" Mason, Marty's long time friend and
musical collaborator. Dare produced the Sometime Anywhere album,
all of Marty's solo albums, and also wrote the liner
notes for Marty's Art Attack album.

Turkeyneck Lasso is the
first release from Russell's new band. He kindly sent me a copy
and its been very popular around our office.
Warp Factor 9
Miscellaneous Stuff
This might be fairly subjective but I've compiled a list of production errors to be found on
various albums.
Many Church vinyl releases have messages
cut into the inner grooves. Weird stuff, but vital reading !
:)
